Frank Sinatra – I’ve Got You Under My Skin

I’ve Got You Under My Skin – Frank Sinatra.

One of my favorite songs of all-time in any genre is Frank Sinatra‘s rendition of “I’ve got you under my skin.” This song has a perfect blend of his romanticism with an energetic brass section that blasts an awesomely fun tune.

“I’ve got you under my skin” was written by the great Cole Porter and orchestrated by an amazing arranger Nelson Riddle. Singing this song with a big-band, Mr. Sinatra would usually perform this song as his encore piece. I can’t blame him for that.

I remember my father was always proud of him announcing the music composer and lyricist of a song before he would sing. This was truly unusual for the time. Come to think of it, this is almost unheard for today’s pop music.

Born in 1915, Mr. Sinatra was one of the most influential musical performers of the 20th century. His soothing voice and a dedication to perfection truly made him one of a kind. While Frank Sinatra could have sat back on his laurels, it is known that he would re-record his takes sometimes 20 times.

I remember obsessively listening to Frank Sinatra all throughout my life. Starting on cassettes, I overplayed some of the songs to the point of oblivion. It didn’t faze me one bit, because I knew that there would always be a Tower Records open for me to purchase one more copy.

I’ve Got You Under My Skin:

I’ve got you under my skin
I’ve got you deep in the heart of me
So deep in my heart that you’re really a part of me
I’ve got you under my skin
I’d tried so not to give in
I said to myself, “This affair never will go so well”
But why should I try to resist when, baby, I know so well
I’ve got you under my skin
I’d sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of havin’ you near
In spite of a warning voice that comes in the night
And repeats, repeats in my ear
“Don’t you know, little fool, you never can win?
Use your mentality, wake up to reality”
But each time that I do just the thought of you makes me stop
Before I begin ’cause I’ve got you under my skin
I would sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of havin’ you near
In spite of the warning voice that comes in the night
And repeats, how it yells in my ear
“Don’t you know, little fool, you never can win?
Why not use your mentality, step up, wake up to reality”
But each time I do just the thought of you makes me stop
Just before I begin ’cause I’ve got you under my skin
Yes, I’ve got you under my skin
